She is not playing the music. She is becoming it.

Eyes closed, hair streaming behind her like dark water caught in a current only she can feel, she stands at the edge of something — a worn wooden stage, a threshold, the last solid place before sound takes over completely. Her dress is the music made visible: crimson and magenta at the heart of her, bleeding into orange and gold and deep ocean blue at the hem, as though every note she plays adds another color to the world.

Around her, the air bends. Musical notes drift from somewhere to her left like memories returning. A golden halo of sound spirals from the violin’s bow. White ribbons of melody curl around her body, and somewhere above, a butterfly escapes into the light.

She does not notice. She is already somewhere else.
