She did not leap. She was called.

From the dark water at the edge of the world, the whale rises — iridescent, impossible, her body shimmering with violet and teal and the deep red of something ancient beneath the skin. Behind her, the moon burns amber and enormous, as though it came closer just to witness this moment. Stars streak across the black sky like they, too, are moving toward her.

The ocean releases her reluctantly. The cosmos reaches down.

She exists in the space between two worlds — neither fully of the deep nor of the sky — suspended in the one perfect moment when everything that has been building for a lifetime finally breaks the surface.
